And so the couple took a leap of faith and entered Britain's Celebrity Big Brother house on Thursday - and it wasn't long before they started causing trouble.
The celebrity version of the UK reality show follows the same premise over a shorter time-span - placing a group of stars in one house and shuts them off from the outside world, keeping them busy with challenges and secret tasks.
Did you miss us?: Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt entered the Celebrity Big Brother house on Thursday
Compared to many of their new housemates, the former stars of The Hills didn't get too dressed up to make their grand entrance.
Heidi, 26, wore a very low-cut printed dress which showed off her surgically-enhanced cleavage as well as her slim legs, and added some glitz in the form of glittering gold pumps.

But it was a good thing he did, because the reality star duo didn't step into the lap of luxury as they entered the house, but instead into the dingy basement.
In a cruel twist, housemates Rylan Clark and Frankie Dettori were forced to decide which of the contestants would live in the main house and who would live in the reality squalor of the basement for the next few days.

'It's an honour': Heidi seemed a lot more excited than her husband to be entering the house
After the couple arrived on stage to greet Celebrity Big Brother host Brian Dowling, Spencer admitted he was already struggling with the concept of living in a house with other people.
He said: 'We've heard lots of names and seen lots of photos, some of them will be horrifying. It's going to be hard because I really don't like other people. I'm ready to get in there, I'm ready to do battle. It's on.
'We definitely want to win. My game plan is to make everyone just want to quit and leave.'

Rylan reasoned: 'They come from LA and have all the sunshine. I come from Essex, it's mostly rain. I think we should stay.'
To which an angry Spencer responded: 'I'm down with going to the basement, it means I don't have to be with them.'
But Rylan seemed to have taken offence to the outspoken reality star's comments, later telling the housemates: 'She [Heidi] seems half decent. She's had a lot of work done, but good luck to her.
Good cop bad cop: The housemates seemed to warm to Heidi but that wasn't the case for her husband
That was lucky: It was a good thing Heidi and Spencer didn't dress up more seeing as they were confined to the dingy basement
And while her husband may not have taken too kindly to Rylan, Heidi seemed keen to meet him.
Prior to entering the basement, she told Brian: 'It's an honour to be here, we're so excited to meet all the other housemates. I've heard Rylan is a really big pop star.'
When they come face to face later in the show, Spencer, 29, is likely to get Rylan's back up even further with his big-headed comments.
King and Queen of reality: Heidi blew a kiss to her fans as Spencer grinned away
Last but not least: Heidi and Spencer were the final contestants to make their way inside the house
And Spencer remarked in his interview: 'At one time, I definitely felt like we were the most famous people in the world. I love myself, what can I say?'
Spencer and Heidi joined Paula Hamilton, Ryan Maloney, Sam Robertson and Neil 'Razor' Ruddock in the basement.
Not so glamorous: The couple looked somewhat perplexed as they took in their basic surroundings in the basement

The housemates living in the basement will be forced to put up with not only limited rations, but sleeping on dirty mattresses and seeing their fellow contestants living a life of luxury in the main house, which comes complete with a hot tub and swimming pool.
Brian Dowling said: 'This year, the Big Brother house is frostier than ever.
Powerful: Frankie Dettori and Rylan Clark were forced to decide who to send to the dingy basement
A source added to the Daily Star newspaper: 'To make matters worse, bosses have placed a plasma screen on the basement dwellers' wall so they can see glimpses of the other team.
'This is so they can see the other team enjoying the luxuries of the 'Big Brother' house and hear them gloating about pigging out on fine wines and food.'
